MHB were commissioned by Albion Drilling to carry out the design of a 8m high soil nailed slope on the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR). This was required to allow deep excavations to be carried out as part of the construction of a new bridge over the existing A93 road near Milltimber. Self drilling soil nails were used for ease of installation in the gravelly soil encountered on site. The nails were up to 8m long at the highest section of the soil slope and these were used in combination with inclined slope drains to reduce water pressures. The face of the slope was stabilised using a rigid mesh to maintain the cut slope between anchor heads. The design and construction work was completed in mid 2016 with construction of the bridge following thereafter. Some progress photos follow below: Craig Warnock joined MHB in November 2016 as Senior Land Surveyor responsible for expanding our capability to carry out topographical surveys. We are now offering this as a service to existing and new clients. Craig has a degree in Geographic Information and Mapping Services from Glasgow University and ten years experience of onshore and offshore surveys. His previous employers are GL Surveys in Glasgow (doing conventional land surveys) and DOF Subsea Services (doing surveys for all forms of offshore jacket construction, installations, pipe line construction and offshore wind). He is familiar with all the conventional types of survey kit including GPS and total stations.
