MHB Consultants were contracted by Taziker Industrial, on behalf of Network Rail, to undertake the detailed design of the refurbishment of Strathbungo Footbridge to extend the life of the Grade C listed structure.

The footbridge connects Moray Place and Darnley Road on Glasgow’s southside and was constructed in 1877 at the same time as the now-closed Strathbungo Station.

MHB undertook a condition survey for the structure to determine what repairs were needed, and in agreement with Network Rail, carried out the detailed design of all repairs and designed the new deck to ensure the continued use of the bridge was possible, and all in accordance within the conservation status.

Through the construction phase of the project, MHB also undertook a number of temporary works designs to support the successful implementation of the project.

The project was completed in early 2019 and the overall project value was £650,000.
