During the last few months we have been working on four earthworks design schemes for QTS.
This is part of the Network Rail CP5 Programme. Sites are located at Cadder West, Falkirk High, Castlecary and Forest Road in Cumbernauld.
The works comprise earthworks and drainage improvements to sites which are susceptible to soil slippages during adverse weather. Solutions include soil nailing, regrading with stone fill, gabion walls and installation of earthworks drainage. The site at Cadder West had experienced 5 slope failures over its 100m length in the last few years, and separate gabion walls had been installed at each failure site.
Network Rail were concerned about the risk of further slope failures and the brief was to stabilise the whole site.
Following a ground investigation and detailed design, MHB proposed new gabion walls to infill the missing sections and regrading with rockfill to the retained material behind.
The works were completed on site by QTS in July 2107.
