As part of Scottish and Southern Energy’s ongoing works at the new Melgarve Sub-Station near Laggan, MHB have carried out a number of temporary works designs for the main contractor, BAM Nuttall. These have included assessments of abnormal loadings on two existing bridges along the access route to check their ability to carry transformers into the worksite.
As well as this, MHB designed the foundations for a 50m span temporary structure across the River Spey. This was required to support a vehicle carrying transformer units, with a total weight of 197 tonnes.
The temporary bridge superstructure was supplied by Mabey and was launched from a levelled platform area and supported on a series of roller bearings and reinforced concrete pad bases.
The launch was carried out in February 17. MHB services on the project included assessment of ground conditions and detailed design of the foundations.
