MHB Consultants Engineer Named Ice Scotland Temporary Works Champion

MHB Consultants (MHB) is proud to announce that Discipline Director Gillian Pettigrew has been named the ICE Scotland Temporary Works Champion, an award recognising individuals who raise standards in temporary works through competence, leadership and practical judgement.

Gillian was nominated for the award by her colleague, Alistair Gray, in recognition of her leadership and contribution across major temporary works schemes throughout the UK. Gillian joined MHB as a Graduate Engineer and has since progressed to Discipline Director, leading the temporary works service across the company’s Glasgow, York and London offices. She has developed 17 new clients in the last year alone, driven by the quality of her work, her technical clarity and the strength of her relationships. She now leads temporary works on major infrastructure schemes, including complex crane lifts and large bridge installations.

Her work spans rail, water, power, aviation and marine. She is also active in the wider engineering community, contributing to schools' outreach, STEM programmes and the Temporary Works Forum. Her ability to deliver safe, practical and cost-effective solutions continues to play a central role in MHB’s growth in temporary works.

A former colleague, Jemma Quinn, commented: “She did an amazing job for me on the EGIP project and SDA back in 2016 when I worked for Morgan Sindall.” Gillian stated, “I am privileged to have been nominated and have won this award. I love my job and the variety that comes with working in temporary works. I am part of an excellent team at MHB who all continually champion the importance of temporary works designs, no matter how small. Thanks to them for the nomination.”

MHB’s Managing Director, Fergus Aitchison, added: “Gillian’s achievement reflects her technical excellence, leadership and the trusted relationships she builds make a real impact. This recognition from ICE Scotland is thoroughly deserved.”
