MHB Consultants recognises outstanding delivery through Own, Grow and Excel Awards

MHB Consultants celebrates behaviours, judgment and responsibility through an internal awards programme

GLASGOW, 10 December 2025

MHB Consultants has recognised outstanding project delivery and professional behaviour across the business through its Own, Grow and Excel Awards. An internal awards programme created to recognise how work is delivered, not just what is delivered.

The awards reflect MHB’s focus on ownership, professional growth and maintaining high standards under pressure. Each award recognises individuals and teams who have demonstrated sound judgement, care for outcomes and responsibility to clients, colleagues and the wider business.

OWN Award

South Gyle Bridge Replacement
Client: Story Contracting Ltd.
Job No.: 3398

The Own Award was presented for the delivery of a complex bridge replacement scheme at South Gyle. The project involved challenging site constraints and late-stage design changes introduced by the client.

The team responded positively and at pace, producing revised drawings on time and ensuring the programme remained on track. By managing expectations clearly and constructively, the project was implemented successfully without delay.

The award was presented to Craig Brash (Project Manager and Modeller), David Armstrong (Lead Designer) and Michael Hynan (CAD).

GROW Award

Coulport and Faslane Civil Works
Client: WCC Group / Ministry of Defence

The Grow Award was awarded to Russell Duffy (Senior Engineer) in recognition of his contribution to securing and delivering the Coulport Civils Works. In his first year with the company, Russell was responsible for winning the largest initial job and purchase order in MHB’s history.

Alongside leading the client-facing delivery of the project, Russell also secured and delivered additional works, building a strong working relationship that has resulted in further commissions totalling approximately £750,000. He has taken full ownership of the role, coordinating internal teams and third parties while managing the requirements associated with Ministry of Defence clearances.

The early success of the project has already led to further enquiries across other areas of the site.

EXCEL Award

Wilton Rise Footbridge
Client: Story
Job No.: 4201

The Excel Award was presented for the delivery of the ES3 design stage on the Wilton Rise Footbridge project. The work involved managing a range of external stakeholders with differing and, at times, conflicting requirements.

Through clear communication and proactive client engagement, the programme remained accurate and key delivery dates were achieved despite the challenging circumstances.

The award was presented to Craig Brash (Project Manager).

Excellence Award

MHB also presented its first Excellence Award, introduced by Founder Hendrie Barbour as part of his legacy to the business. The award recognises sustained contribution, professional judgement and leadership over time.

The inaugural Excellence Award was presented to Craig Stryker.

“I’m delighted that Craig Stryker is the first recipient of the MHB Annual Excellence Award. Since joining us five years ago he has built up our marine and waterways department from scratch and now runs a team of six delivering design solutions across the sector. His team has successfully delivered designs on canals, ports and harbours, sea defences and scour protection to bridges. He is a very worthy winner.” Hendrie Barbour, Founder

Giving back

As part of the awards, each recipient has selected a charity for MHB to support. The chosen charities are as follows:

Own Award – Fourth Regional Scout Council for 2027 World Scouting Jamboree in Poland Grow Award – Guild of Gaming - a community organisation supporting young people through structured, game-based learning and social development.
Excel Award – Building Blitz - Building Schools in Africa – Mellon Educate Charity

The Own, Grow and Excel Awards reflect MHB’s commitment to recognising the behaviours and decisions that underpin consistent, high-quality delivery. Standards are shaped not only by processes and outputs, but by how people act when responsibility sits with them.
