Duncan is a career railway civil engineer with extensive experience of all aspects of railway track and civil engineering having held very senior positions in British Rail, Railtrack and Network Rail. ​

He was Head of Engineering for Network Rail, Infrastructure Projects, Scotland & NE until 2014 when he began working as an Independent Consultant to the Rail Industry.
