MHB Consultants is delighted to announce the opening for the position of Senior or Principal Geotechnical Engineer in York. The successful candidate will have a career changing opportunity of running a geotechnical team in our York office with support from our head office in Glasgow. The candidate

The ideal candidate will have 5 - 8 years of design experience in civil/ geotechnical engineering consultancy and chartered with the Institution of Civil Engineers.

The job will require a dynamic and motivated individual who is technically capable as well as a good communicator and manager.  It would also be beneficial for applicants to have knowledge of Autocad, general geotechnical design software and MS Office. Rail experience would also be an advantage but not essential. Relevant design experience includes, but is not limited to, earthwork design, slope stability, foundation design, pile design, soil nailing, ground anchors, gravity and embedded retaining wall design, as well as knowledge of Eurocode and CDM regulations.

The job

The job will principally involve the following tasks:

  • Identify the key geotechnical risks that could affect our projects and propose appropriate management measures.
  • Undertake concept & detailed design.
  • Prepare technical reports (e.g. Ground Investigation and Geotechnical Design reports).
  • Manage the commercial side of the project to ensure achieving a good balance between technical excellence and project profitability.
  • Prepare fee proposals and help the company to win work and maintain good relationships with clients.
  • Able to communicate design via clear and well-presented drawings and sketches.
  • Have the ability to learn and expand his/her knowledge.
  • Get involved in future interview to hire junior engineers.
  • Help in managing the workload of the team to ensure quality delivery of work.
  • Support the wider geotechnical team within MHB as required.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in civil engineering (MSc in geotechnical engineering is advantageous).
  • Clean driving licence.
