MHB Consultants worked with QTS on a rock railway cutting stability project near Largs. The cutting was improved with the trains and the railway line safeguarded against future rock ravelling and block failures on the track.
The railway cutting had originally dense vegetation and matured trees over shallow rock outcrops. Tree root jacking issues were present along the cutting creating a significant risk for rock blocks to be destabilised and risk of rock ravelling.
QTS Group undertook a thorough vegetation removal along the whole site which allowed MHB Consultants to inspect the cutting area and design a hybrid solution of active and passive rock netting systems, depending on risk level, along with rock spot bolting.
Work was successfully completed by QTS Group in March and April 2019.
