MHB Consultants recently completed the design of a bridge infill at Pyetscleuch near Sanquhar.

The existing masonry arch bridge carrying the railway was showing signs of distress and was no longer required for access. Network Rail decided to infill the structure and regrade the existing slopes to match in with the adjacent embankments. Rather than remove the bridge structure itself, the decision was made to infill the bridge arch with concrete whilst keeping the railway open at all times. MHB carried out the outline and detailed design.

Works were completed by the contractor, AMCO during summer 2016. Photographs during construction follow.
